KIRSTEN GALLERY OVER THE YEARS: 1972-2017
1972: The Winter Olympics were in Sapporo, Japan; Richard Nixon was President of the United States; The Godfather was the best movie; and gasoline was 55 cents per gallon. This is the year Kirsten Gallery opened, and we never could have imagined the journey we would take over the better part of five decades.
Over the past 45 years, we've forged many friendships, become part of an incredible community, and showcased some of the finest art in Seattle. Artists and customers alike have grown with us, many becoming best friends and a part of the Kirsten family. We shared our joys and sorrows, watched our children grow up, and welcomed grandchildren.
We presented our artists' work to literally hundreds of thousands of people, using the Seattle Home Show and the Northwest Flower and Garden Show as venues outside the gallery, and taking our artists to trade shows in Los Angeles, New York, Las Vegas, Chicago, Atlanta and other cities. We did all that was necessary to take care of our artists. While some say "America first," we - from day one - said "our artists and customers first."
This is why it is so difficult for us to say that we will be closing our doors on December 31, 2017, except for appointments. For 45 years we have lived a dream of incredible joy, thanks to friends like you. While we will miss being at the gallery, we also are looking forward to new endeavors.
Our website at kirstengallery.com will be extensively revised, and will be fully functional in the Fall of 2018, with an updated catalog of work. Following many others in retail, we will become and online gallery.
From the bottom of our hearts, we thank you for your friendship, love and support; and for letting us and our artists become a part of your life.
